"Wishing won't make it so" - September 12, 2014

I’ve heard it many times the past few weeks… At a funeral, speaking to a son in tears after his father’s death, the son said, “I wish I would have spent more time with him.” Chatting with my carpet installer about his childhood music attempts, he expressed, “I wish I would have continued those guitar lessons as a young teen.” In a conversation just yesterday with my husband about parenting, I told him, “I wish we would have made our kids more aware of the bigger story going on around them.”

As a girl, I used to love singing this song called 'wishing will make it so' - I didn't think of the meaning much at the time, but now I know wishing DOESN'T make it so.  We can't go back, and we rarely if ever get a 'do-over'.  So, what am I to do about it?  I figure it would be best to learn from my mistakes, thank God for growth and a fresh start every morning, and then move forward.  I don't want to be left wishing I would have done or said something different, so I plan to make the most of the time I am given and leave behind the regrets.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord".... Colossians 3:23
