Life to the 'full' or life to the 'busy'? - October 9, 2014

I love this time of year!  The leaves changing in a plethora of colors, sweaters and jeans, harvest celebrations, hot carmel and apple cider days.  For me, it's easy to pack my calendar with all the extra toppings of each new season in addition to my regular stuff, since it's all so wonderful - those lovely traditions.  I have often said I live life 'to the full'!

Just this week, a friend challenged me to ask myself whether I am living a life 'to the full' or a life 'to the busy'.   There is a big difference, you know.  We then discussed the idea of doing all things to glorify God.  Scripture indicates it all really comes back to the heart motive behind anything and everything we do - even 'ministry or church' stuff.   So what's the real reason we are doing or serving or loving or giving...?  Sometimes we know the truth deep down, but other times, we can't judge even our own motives correctly. Honestly, I can talk myself into just about anything, and I don't say 'no' very well.  How can I live to the full rather than to the busy, when I can't always tell the difference?

"My help comes from the Lord the maker of Heaven and Earth.... He refreshes my soul.  He guides me along the right paths for His name's sake!  Psalm 121:2 and 23:3  "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart",  Jeremiah 29:13
